Armoured Experiments - British Tanks Before and During WW2 Part of Tank Week on WW2TV Our guest historian is Gareth Davies who served in the Royal Tank Regiment for over 25 years. His military career included tours teaching at Sandhurst, the Land Warfare School, and the Joint Services Command and Staff College, as well as two tours in the Ministry of Defence. Gareth now works as a Warfare Analyst and regularly speaks on all aspects of armoured warfare. When tanks were first deployed in the Great War their role was primarily as infantry support, but as the war came to an end, Armies began to discuss how best to use this new technology going forward. As the interwar years passed, heated arguments raged within the British military hierarchy as to how this should unfold. In tonight's show Gareth will talk about the Armoured Experiments of the 1930s with the goal of answering the question: Were the British Army's Armoured Units fit for purpose for the type of combined arms war that Britain entered in 1939?
