The set does not come with any instructions, so you will have to look up online what color filters are suggested for different planets. Several of the colors and numbers correspond to the numbering scheme I've seen on other sets of planetary filters, and the hues generally appeared to match those I've seen from other brands. I'm personally not a big fan of color filters for planetary observation (I feel the "natural" colors look better) but some people really like to highlight certain aspects of the planets with higher contrast and are willing to trade "true color" representation for that. I've used other brands of color filters and these had the same effect. The most important filter in the pack in my opinion is the neutral density filter which passes 13% of the light (blocking 87%). This is most useful when viewing the moon through a larger aperture telescope so that the illumination doesn't generate glare and overwhelm your eye. Reducing the amount of light allows you to see more details with higher contrast, and I feel every astronomer should have a ND/Moon filter in their kit. The aluminum filter holders are a bit "longer" or "thicker" that average, but the glass filter itself is normal. They are the correct 1.25" outer diameter and they all screwed correctly into my 1.25" camera nose-piece. At this price point, they are an inexpensive addition to your astronomy kit, and well in line with other colored filter sets I've seen.
