I’m currently beta testing the Dreaming Robots Electric Eel Wheel Prototype Drum Carder. I’m pretty new to drum carding so I thought I’d see how my blending board skills and techniques transfer to a motorised drum carder. In my earlier video, I showed how I split Ametrine from World of Wool into a gradient using the drum carder, almost as a blending board. Ametrine is particularly well blended, so it’s virtually impossible to split out the colours, which results in a complex heathered gradient. I’m using the dowels that came with my Ashford blending board to roll off thin rolags. I’m using the packing brush on the drum carder to stop the drum from rotating and a dog brush to lift the fibres away from the drum carder. I’m hoping to combine a single spun from the long gradient fibre with a single spun from these much shorter gradients to achieve a kind of 2 ply fractal yarn. . . .
