Sin and Forgiveness January 04, 2025 International Sunday School Lesson January 4, 2026 The Wrong Path 5 Key Teaching Points Sin and Forgiveness 1 JOHN 1:5-10; 2:1-6 Breakdown with Ronald Jasmin God Is Light, Not Darkness Fellowship with God requires truth, transparency, and integrity. Sin Must Be Confessed, Not Covered Denial delays healing; confession opens the door to forgiveness. Forgiveness Is Guaranteed Through Christ Jesus stands as our Advocate before the Father. Grace Is Not a License to Sin Forgiveness leads to obedience, not complacency. Walking Like Christ Is the Evidence of Forgiveness Our lifestyle reflects whether we truly know Him. The Lesson in Simple Terms John—the disciple who literally walked with Jesus—writes this letter to clear up confusion about sin, forgiveness, and what it means to truly follow Christ. He destroys some dangerous lies: LIE #1: "I can walk in darkness and still have fellowship with God." TRUTH: God is light. Darkness and light don't mix (1:5-6). LIE #2: "I don't have sin." TRUTH: If you say that, you're a liar and deceiving yourself (1:8). LIE #3: "I've never sinned." TRUTH: That makes God a liar (1:10). THE GOOD NEWS: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1:9). THE GOAL: "I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One" (2:1). Bottom line? You WILL sin. But you don't have to STAY in sin. Confess it. God forgives it. Then actually walk in the light and obey Him. This isn't about perfection—it's about honesty, repentance, and transformation. The Lord alone judges hearts. Our role is to serve faithfully and build each other up, rather than judging or boasting. How we live, lead, and relate to one another should reflect the values of Christ's Kingdom."
