A minor girl was raped by a government officer who was supposed to safeguard her. The Delhi High Court has taken notice of the case and has sought a report from the Delhi Police and the Department of Women and Child Development. Breaking News: The court has also ordered that the victim’s identity should be kept confidential. The culprit, Premoday Khakha, is an officer with the Delhi government’s Department of Women and Child Development. He and his wife, who allegedly gave the 16-year-old survivor abortion pills, have been arrested. The survivor was staying with Khakha and his wife after her father’s death and called Khakha ‘uncle’. She told a therapist at a hospital where she was being treated for panic attacks. She is still critical and had a seizure yesterday. Khakha had also faced sexual harassment complaints from four other women who worked with him at a mental health unit. However, he was cleared by an internal probe. Two of the women have approached the Delhi High Court where their cases are pending. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) have also intervened in the matter and demanded action against Khakha. This is a horrifying case of misuse of authority and human rights violation. The court will hear the matter again on September 14. For more information watch the complete video.
