The Lawrence/Douglas County Chapter of Women for Kansas, League of Women Voters of Lawrence-Douglas County and the NAACP Lawrence Kansas Branch are proud to host the 2025 USD 497 School Board Candidate Forum, Sunday, Sept. 7, from 3:00-4:30pm at Flory Hall, West, Douglas County Fairgrounds. All 7 candidates are planning to participate and include Bob Byers, ChrisTopher Niles Enneking, Kelly Jones, Matt Lancaster, Molly Starr, Pam Shaw and Shannon Kimball. Moderator will be Tai Edwards, local Lawrence resident, historian and educator. School board members elected by the community serve four-year terms without salary. The primary duties of the board include setting educational policy, approving the district’s budget, and hiring and evaluating the superintendent. This forum will be recorded and available to watch on the womenforkansas.org YouTube channel. The deadline to register to vote or to update your voter registration is Oct. 14. Advance, in-person voting for the general election begins on Oct. 15. Last day to apply for an advance voting mail ballot is Oct. 28. Advance in-person voting ends at noon on Monday, Nov. 3 and the general election will be held from 7am-7pm on Tuesday, Nov. 4 and will feature both the school board and city commission candidates.
