Philanthropic organizations hold power and can play a critical role in shaping public health. “Meeting the moment: Philanthropy advancing the greater good” will explore how funders are assessing and navigating a rapidly shifting landscape. Participants will hear from funders about how they are addressing increased challenges to health and equity work, including efforts to dismantle diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, threats against nonprofit autonomy, and increased requests for funding. Join us as we discussed how funders are approaching grantmaking in this context. We discussed how funders can shape societal rules by sharing power with grantees and communities to protect public health. Participants learned how public health and health care professionals can work with philanthropy to advocate for equitable policies, transform narratives that build solidarity, and create systems-level change. Our panel included Caroline Brunton, a program officer with the Michigan-based W.K. Kellogg Foundation; Shantell Hinton-Hill, a senior equity officer at the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation in Little Rock, AR; and Paul Kennedy, the president of the Walker Area Community Foundation in Jasper, AL. This webinar was the last of our “Meeting the moment” series exploring how power and societal rules shape community conditions that influence health. The series has examined the public health landscape and uncovered strategies and opportunities to strengthen the public health ecosystem.
