The Tampa Bay History Center proudly hosted the fourth annual Black History Month Reception on Feb. 28, 2025, at 801 Water St., Tampa—an inspiring evening dedicated to celebrating Black history and excellence. The night began with a reception from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Lykes Atrium, featuring live music by saxophonist David Nichols and a cash bar provided by the Columbia Cafe. Guests had the opportunity to explore the museum’s galleries before the program commenced at 6:30 p.m. in TECO Hall. This year’s keynote speaker, Leonard George Jr., Esq., a West Tampa native, football trailblazer, journalist, and attorney, shared his groundbreaking journey as the first African American to sign a football scholarship with the University of Florida. His impact on sports, media, and law continues to inspire generations. Dr. Rozelia Kennedy presented the Dr. Bernard LaFayette History Award, honoring a dedicated advocate for preserving Black history. The evening was hosted by Emerald Morrow, an Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter with 10 Tampa Bay.
