We had some crazy strong winds again last night. First thing this morning, I went to go check on the eagles' nest, and rest assured, it is still there and intact. Everything looks in order as I watched one of the parents nesting on the egg(s). There was a lot of activity around the nest while I was recording this video. The weather was unseasonably warm, and that allowed the eagles to be free from the nest for a while. They both got to stretch their wings together, so to speak. I speculate that maybe they know something that we do not. With the egg(s) being this close to hatching, there must be some movement or noises coming from the eggs that the eagles can sense. It was as if they were reacting to something very positive, and it was great to witness. There is another note that I would like to mention in this video. For the past few years, while I have been documenting this eagle couple, I have had no trouble identifying the male from the female. J1 (female) was easy for me to distinguish. She was a bit larger than J2 (male), and her head was always more broad. Her coloring was a bit lighter compared to her mates. While both were roosted or nesting near each other, the difference was noticeable. Until this year. I have had a very difficult time telling these two apart. Even when they are right next to each other, I can see very little difference between the two. It has left me to speculate that we may have a new female eagle here. The original eagle pair that I have been recording has been here for many years. There was a dramatic event last year that may have played a part in the demise of one of our eagles. When the nest collapsed last year, the chicks hadn't fledged yet, and the parents had to try and help them to survive in the woods until they did indeed fledge. I noticed what I thought was an injury to a leg in one of my videos from last year ( video published on May 17th, 2024). I am now really starting to speculate that J2 has a new mate. I am not an ornithologist, nor do I pretend to try and know everything about these eagles here, but I really do sense that something has changed. Maybe time will tell us more. Next week, the egg(s) should be starting to open if the incubation goes well. The thought of making an eaglet video next week at this time sure has me excited. Let's hope that comes true. Until the next one, cheers!
