Grovely Wood | Is This Forest Haunted By WITCHES?!

If you go down in the woods today.... Grovely Wood in Wiltshire has to be one of the most intriguing forests in the south of England. Local legend tells of four sisters, the Handsel sisters, who came from Denmark to live in the UK during the 1700s. Unbeknown to them, their horrifying fate would soon play out in the very place they sought sanctuary. An outbreak of small pox swept through the area taking 132 lives with it and, riddled with grief and anger, the local people accused the sisters of conjuring the disease through witchcraft. The sisters, without trial, were dragged into Grovely Wood and brutally bludgeoned to death. All that remains of their sad tale, is three gnarly beech trees which grew in the very spot the women are believed to be buried. World War II bunkers and a 2000 year old roman road can also be found at Grovely adding to it's fascinating folklore. Grovely Wood is now a popular place for explorers and paranormal investigators!
