"hapa.me - 15 years of the hapa project" opened to the public on April 7, 2018, with a day full of performances, activities, and crafts. The day closed with a program featuring exhibition creator Kip Fulbeck along with scholars and project participants, followed by an exhibition catalog signing. In this video, Fulbeck talks about The Hapa Project and "hapa.me." His remarks are followed by a lively discussion with several individuals Fulbeck has photographed for the project. Also participating are three of the hapa luminaries who contributed essays to the catalog: playwright Velina Hasu Houston; Cindy Nakashima, who has researched, written on, and taught about mixed race for over 30 years; and Paul Spickard, a UC Santa Barbara professor who has written 20 books on race and ethnicity. "hapa.me" is on view through October 28, 2018. For information about the exhibition and related programs: http://janm.org/hapa-me. Japanese American National Museum 100 N.
