These programs were initially planned to commemorate the ninth anniversary of the Modi government. The accident occurred when the Coromandel, Bengaluru-Howrah Express trains derailed and collided with a goods train at Bahanaga station in the Balasore district of Odisha. The incident resulted in numerous casualties and injuries, with many passengers trapped inside the overturned coaches.
