Update: Found this, possibly related: • Video I haven't seen this information really documented anywhere except for like 2 YouTube comments (kinda), so I experimented with it myself. I'm pretty confident that I have a solid understanding of this. So, to finally clear up confusion, here's an explanation. Before someone comments, "The music that plays when you get to the Spring Path is the same as the Old Chateau," no it is not. They are different. Very slightly different. As in, I think one instrument is missing from this version of the theme. Regardless, it is still different. Don't believe me? Pay attention to the part from 0:38 to 1:01, then open the Old Chateau music in another tab and compare the same part. There is something noticeably missing. You can also pull out your own copy of Diamond or Pearl (not Platinum) and go to the Spring Path to compare it to the Old Chateau music. However, the audio files aren't actually different, as far as I'm aware. You can tell this because if you save anywhere beyond the Spring Path and then restart the game, the music that plays is identical to the Old Chateau. Same thing if you surf in the spring. The music will stop (like with the well-documented Spring Path music glitch), and when you step back onto land the music will be identical to the Old Chateau. The audio file is the same (if my hypothesis is correct). It's just that when you enter the Spring Path, the audio glitches for some reason. This is probably why there isn't a rip of Turnback Cave's music anywhere on YouTube, or at least not one that's any different than what you hear at the Old Chateau; it's because the audio file is the exact same one. I recorded this audio while playing Pokémon Diamond rather than ripping it from the game's files or something. The developers must have noticed this glitch as they were making Platinum, since it's patched in that version. Hopefully this clears up some confusion. As for why this happens, I don't really know. I only really have one guess, but it's a total guess. The music that plays at Spring Path/Sendoff Spring is different in Platinum, and the theme only plays in Turnback Cave. Maybe it's possible that the Old Chateau Music wasn't supposed to play outside of Turnback Cave in Diamond and Pearl either. Maybe the Spring Path and Sendoff Spring were just supposed to play the Route 210 theme like in Platinum, but they messed up and selected two songs to play there, and they conflicted, hence the glitch. Sounds a bit Farfetch'd, but that's all I've got. If anyone has any ideas, let me know. I don't think it's a coincidence that these two glitches are connected to the same place, I think it's pretty obvious that they're connected somehow. If there's one thing I want to come out of this, it's for someone to find out what really causes this to happen. Does this really matter that much? Maybe not, but I think it's odd that I couldn't find any good documentation of this. The Spring Path silence glitch that's also connected to this area is HEAVILY documented, yet this isn't, despite the fact that it comes up during regular gameplay? I can't be the only person that's taken the time to examine this. If anyone finds some good documentation that includes all of this, or if someone more knowledgeable than I wants to correct the record about something I've said, let me know. That's all the important stuff. As a quick little side note, I personally find this "version" to be just a little creepier. The normal version sounds a little cheesier to me with its more prominent ghost-like sounds. This one feels a little more serious and a little bit more empty. I know that's a bit silly; this is technically just an inferior version of the song, but what can I say - I played this game as a kid, and the little quirks stick with me :P I just really love either version of this theme in general. Love me a good creepy theme. Small update: For those that might be wondering if the Darkrai event at the Harbor Inn also has this glitch, it does not. It just plays the normal version of the theme. Figured I'd check juuuust in case. I guess that strengthens my theory a bit, but that's probably just a long shot anyway. Update 2: As previously stated, the Darkrai event doesn't produce this glitched theme, but awesomelink234 and Beau Ackley have brought up in the comments that tweaking to Newmoon Island does. I haven't tested this myself, but I found a video that seems to confirm this: • Tweaking/Void Glitch: How to get Darkrai (... (don't recommend trying yourself unless you know what you're doing) Interesting development, probably shoots my old theory of why it happens in the foot :P
