It's not hard to fall in love with Colorado's beautiful landscape. That's probably why it's impossible to get parking at a trailhead within 30 minutes of Denver on a weekend. But, while there are plenty of weekend warriors, it takes a special kind of person to pack up everything they need, carry it on their back, and explore places you can't find without a long trip into the backcountry. The Continental Divide Trail embodies this as much as anything. Encompassing 3,100 miles of singletrack, dirt roads, and even stretches of pavement between Mexico and Canada, it's a thru-hike that only around 100 people complete per year. And after 40 years, it remains a work in progress. 9NEWS Photojournalist Chris Hansen spent some time on the trail and spoke to the hikers, trail angels and stewards he met along the way.
