Steel TV recaps the February 22 and 23 games on the road in Cedar Rapids and Des Moines, Iowa. Chicago split the weekend games with a loss in CR and a win in DM picking up their 19th win. Chicago's Drew Smolcynski notched the game-winning goal with one minute, 21 seconds left in regulation as the Steel overcame a late deficit to defeat the Des Moines Buccaneers 6-4 at Buccaneer Arena. Smolcynski also had the game-tying goal at the 14:40 mark in the third stanza. Along with his two goals, Smolcynski added an assist to for a three-point evening. Chicago fell behind 1-0 in the second period at the 6:58 mark, but Danny Fetzer answered with a goal of his own less than a minute later to tie the game. The Buccaneers jumped back in front later in the second; however Ray Pigozzi tied it up for the Steel going into the second intermission. In the third period, Chicago jumped out in front 3-2 after Thomas Ebbing scored 44 seconds into the period. Des Moines notched two unanswered goals to regain the lead 4-3. The Steel bent, but did not break and Smolcynski tallied his two to guide Chicago to victory. Mackenzie MacEachern added an empty net goal with 15 seconds left on the clock.
