In this special episode of the Red Man Walking Channel, we cover the final 5 miles of one of the most extraordinary journeys ever attempted on the West Highland Way. A month ago, I was contacted by a man named Scott Darroch, seeking advice on the route — something that happens regularly through the channel. But what Scott had planned was anything but ordinary. He was going to walk all 96 miles of the trail carrying a full-sized washing machine on his back. Supported by a fellow armed forces colleague, Scott’s challenge was beyond anything I’d ever encountered. From the treacherous rock/tree squeeze along the banks of Loch Lomond, to the ever-lowering tunnel before Crianlarich, and the narrow railway underpass beyond Tyndrum, I had real concerns about the feasibility of such an attempt — especially in the midst of a sweltering heatwave. But Scott wasn’t walking for himself; he was doing it in support of the Invictus Games Foundation, helping wounded and recovering servicemen and women worldwide. This vlog captures our emotional final push into Fort William, where a crowd of supporters lines the streets, offering cheers, applause, and admiration. It’s the culmination of grit, determination, and the spirit of service. Join us for this unforgettable finale — a story of resilience, respect, and purpose. Like, share, and support the incredible cause at the heart of this mission. Let’s honour those who carry heavy loads in more ways than one.
