The Hagåtña Historic District documentary highlights the Spanish, American, and Japanese influences in Hagåtña. It features 22 historic sites listed on the Guam Register and/or the National Register of Historic Places, all located within Guam's capital village. The homes and remnants of Hagåtña's former way of life shown in this presentation survived Operation Forager, which was launched to weaken Japan’s defenses. The two-week U.S. Navy Task Force 58 air strike campaign was supported by U.S. battleships, cruisers, and destroyers, including extensive artillery bombardments as part of the effort to retake the island from Japanese control at the end of World War II. The U.S. amphibious landing on July 21, 1944, was called Liberation Day, which became Guam’s biggest holiday, celebrated with a parade. Rlene Santos Steffy, producer.
