Two-Week Curfew Imposed In Jalna Following Violent Clashes During Maratha Quota Protest

On Friday, September 1, 2023, a protest for the Maratha reservation in the Jalna district of central Maharashtra turned violent. Police used baton-charge and fired teargas shells to disperse a violent mob at Antarwali Sarathi village on Dhule-Solapur road in Ambad tehsil. Twelve police personnel were injured. On Saturday, September 2, 2023, the violence escalated and members of the Maratha community escalated their agitation, a day after the protest turned violent. The violence and arson left several injured, including 60 police personnel. So far, seven FIRs have been filed.
