Vismaya hangs self at husband’s home in Kollam; relatives say she was murdered and then hanged

In a suspected case of suicide, a 24-year-old woman in Kerala was found hanging at her husband’s residence on Monday. She has been identified as Vismaya (24) of Kaithathodu at Nilamel in Kollam district. She was found hanging on Monday morning at her husband Kiran Kumar's house in Sasthanada near Sasthamkotta in Kollam. Her relatives have alleged that her death is a case of dowry harassment. “Vismaya was beaten brutally before her death. She had sent the pictures of the torture through WhatsApp to her brother’s phone. There were photos of bruises on her body. Soon after this, we got news about her death. It was a murder following dowry harassment,” the relatives alleged. Vismaya’s parents said that her body was shifted even before they reached the house. Kiran Kumar is an officer in the Motor Vehicle Department. The couple got married in March 2020. Kirankumar went missing after the incident. District crime branch DySP Manoj will investigate the complaint lodged by her relatives. The women's commission has filed a suo moto case over the incident. The commission has sought a report from Kollam Rural SP on the incident. Vismaya’s body has been shifted to hospital for post-mortem.
