2025 Island Cup XC MTB Race #5 Hammerfest Round 5 of the 2025 Island Cup "Hammerfest" Errington! This is the shortest loop course of the series. Basically a fire-road climb (steep at the start) into a singletrack section across the top of the course, then into the "down" section, with a small wooden gap jump feature, near the top and an old stump-come-jump mid way down, before swinging back out on the fire-road to climb and repeat. A short loop which makes for a lot of repetition on video, and few passing places unless you're obviously WAY quicker / lapping etc. I don't quite know what happened today... this time "last year" I was fighting for a podium position (for the series) and was going straight to the BC Bike Race the next day. My start was poor, no where near the effort I should have put in. I'll put it down to lack of a decent warm up, heading into the first single in about 20th place - and stayed there pretty much throughout. As you've seen before, my strength has truly become the DH sections - the more technical the better, and Hammerfest is defiantly not technical! The final round is back at Hartland / the Dump in Victoria... technical DH sections for sure... but that climb to the top - 3 or 4 times with this "Who's Ya Daddy / Night Shift" start loop is not going to be fun. That, and being the "Provincial Champs" should make for an interesting day!
