The goal is to build the gate so it is heavy duty, however not too heavy. The weight of large fence gate doors is a primary factor leading to gate sagging over time. Using pressure treated lumber is a good choice for rot resistance however PT lumber is often heavy. In this build I use a combination to pressure treated lumber and cedar wood to create this fence gate. I also use some heavy-duty fences hinges and install some custom gate door stops.
