With marijuana laws changing at a rapid pace across all 50 states, we’ve seen an explosion of premium packaging for cannabis so elegant and sophisticated, it’s even giving wine and spirit labels a run for their money. To demonstrate just how skilled they are at producing gorgeous packaging for this market, letterpress masters Studio On Fire (https://www.studioonfire.com/) collaborated with foil makers Kurz (https://www.kurzusa.com/) to craft this “High Quality Pkg” concept box to give out at the recent marijuana business trade show MJBizCon. With its heady mix of shimmering foils, die cutting, embossing and overall tactile terrific-ness, it might’ve been a little TOO successful. (More on that in a minute.) ..... Designed and produced by Studio On Fire, the striking 2.5-x-2.5-x-2.5-inch black cube is made from 125 lb. Neenah Folding Board Deep Black Hemp Cover. The already rich ebony hue is made all the richer with the application of Black foil, this tone-on-tone effect lending it more visual texture and a subtle sheen. An additional foil, Bronze, successfully brings the bling, providing a stunning contrast with its geometric patterns and text. Explains Studio On Fire, “The rays of foil are geometric abstraction of cannabis leaves, which also play off of the structure and angles of the box itself.” Lifting up the angled lid of this premium packaging reveals even more beautiful Bronze foil text as well as a glass jar, complete with monogramed and nano-embossed seal (Bronze and Black foils) over the jar’s cap. The jar itself sits snuggly in an octagonal cut out, a very clever internal base giving it a slight angle – overall giving the impression of a precious gem being presented in an intricate jewel box. Meanwhile, embossing on the top and front of the box establish that all-important tactile link between consumer and product. The eagerness with which this premium packaging sample was snapped up at the trade show was great, says Studio On Fire, who add “the only hurdle we’re encountering is that folks are wanting to order this EXACT BOX.” The problem? They’re fresh out of the 4,000 samples they made and they won’t be making any more – they only make custom packaging from scratch. .....
