A tribute to the wonderful "Gidget" (1959), the film that is considered to be the forerunner of the 60s "Beach Party" and "Surfer" movies. Undoubtedly Sandra Dee's signature role and one of her most famous films (alongside her other hit of the same year, "A Summer Place" and the two later "Tammy" sequels), she won the hearts of many in her portrayal of the title character, a teenage girl determined to become a surfer and to win the heart of fellow surfer "Moondoggie" (James Darren) and learning and teaching wisdom courtesy of The Great Kahuna (Cliff Robertson). So here are clips from the movie with James Darren singing the title song. Even those of us who weren't around in those days can enjoy the nostalgia. The cars, music, fashions, home decor, all of it! And as always, the charming and sweet Sandra Dee. She's no longer with us, but she left us so many movies to enjoy. I apologize for not having the film in its original aspect ratio; Columbia, in releasing the three Gidget films, neglect to do any restoration so unfortunately the movies are all pan-and-scan.
