ABSTRACT This presentation is an introduction to compression neuropathies and examines the histological premise for nerve compression with methodology for evaluating these patients. Knowledge of compression neuropathy is key for treating patients with nerve injuries and serves as a foundation for building further expertise within the specialty of nerve surgery. This presentation includes a discussion surrounding the histopathology of nerve compression and its progression over time. Double crush syndrome is also included in this discussion. The second component of this presentation includes methodology for evaluation patients with nerve compression. This details the patient work-up, provocative tests and maneuvers, scratch collapse test, and strategies for sensory examination.
