The walls are closing in on Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, as the release of the latest tranche of Epstein files paints his past behaviour in ever darker shades. This week I was re-joined by journalist and author Alex Larman, who I've taken to dubbing the 'David Starkey Talks Royal correspondent'. My opening remarks are an acknowledgement that, the last time we spoke, I was wrong to suggest that The King might have moved too hastily in ejecting the then Prince Andrew from the monarchy. Though I absolutely stand by my belief that proper judicial processes should be followed, it seems clear that the damage the Epstein scandal was and is capable of inflicting on the monarchy is simply too great for The King not to have acted. But there's a second point I had to make. It seems increasingly clear that the late Queen Elizabeth II mishandled her son's behaviour. Was she too indulgent? Too ready to believe that everything could be swept under the carpet? These and other questions are what Alex and I turned our attention in this episode.
