Dialogue Must Never Be Mistaken as an Endorsement of Tyranny” – Bipartisan MPs Urge Clarification on Malaysian FM’s Reported Meeting with Myanmar Junta A group of bipartisan Members of Parliament today voiced deep concern over a report published by The Global New Light of Myanmar dated 10 October 2025, which claimed that Malaysia’s Foreign Minister, YB Dato’ Seri Utama Mohamad bin Hasan, had paid an official visit to Myanmar and met with leaders of the ruling junta. According to the state-linked newspaper, during the meeting, the Malaysian Foreign Minister was quoted as expressing satisfaction with Myanmar’s preparations for a “democratic multi-party general election,” and assuring that ASEAN would cooperate closely with Myanmar in that effort. The MPs — including Dato’ Sri Saifuddin bin Abdullah, Member of Parliament for Indera Mahkota and former Foreign Minister, and Puan Syerleena Abdul Rashid, Member of Parliament for Bukit Bendera — issued a joint statement expressing alarm that such reporting could suggest that Malaysia and/or ASEAN were endorsing the junta’s planned elections amid ongoing armed conflict, widespread repression, and a worsening humanitarian crisis. Saifuddin urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to clarify Malaysia’s position, noting, “ASEAN has stopped inviting the junta to official meetings, and now its chair visits the capital — that alone requires some explanation.” Echoing his remarks, Syerleena emphasized the moral imperative of Malaysia’s diplomacy: “Dialogue must never be mistaken as an endorsement of tyranny.” She reaffirmed that Malaysia’s foreign policy must reflect justice, democracy, and the defense of human dignity. #Malaysia #ASEAN #Myanmar #JuntaMyanmar #SaifuddinAbdullah #SyerleenaAbdulRashid #MohamadHasan #ForeignMinister #Parliament #ForeignPolicy #HumanRights #Democracy #Justice #Peace #Freedom #Diplomacy #Bipartisan #MalaysiaCares #ASEANUnity #StandWithMyanmar #NoToTyranny #Solidarity #MoralCompass #Transparency #KementerianLuar #PressConference #Accountability #RegionalStability #InternationalRelations #EndOppression #RuleOfLaw #ForeignAffairs
