It is one of two level crossings located within the village of Thorpe Willoughby, the other level crossing (Thorpe Hall Level Crossing) is located only around 350 yards west of this location, and both level crossings can clearly be seen from each other, are operated together, and share the same protecting signals. The road here is not as busy as to be expected for a relatively main road, though it does see a fair bit of traffic passing through the village into and out of Selby and the Surrounding areas. This level crossing is rather long as the track crosses the road at quite an angle here, and bends in the road and rail on a certain combination of approaches means that there is an especially good view of trains approaching from the Selby direction on one side of this level crossing as a result, a trackside view which used to be obscured by a signal box which was here until the obstacle detection system was installed. The nature of the setup here means that more Lidars (obstacle detectors) than usual are needed to be able to fully scan the level crossing for obstructions as it is quite large and on a road bend.. Both alarms here are reasonably loud, and the four barriers here are rather long also. Four lowerings are featured in this video, and each of the 5 trains per hour that pass this location on a typical off-peak service is also seen. The level crossing has been filmed from both sides, including views of the whole level crossing as well as close-up views. During the fourth lowering, I chatted to a cyclist who was part of a group who got stopped here, and had asked what was coming. That video has been left un-cut despite talking, though each of the other videos featured had parts of the waits for trains cut from them. Thanks for watching!
