In May of 2024, former World Champion and all round legend, Kento Momota retired from international competition. Everyone, myself included, thought we'd never get an opportunity to watch him grace the international stage once more. But then... along came the King's Cup 2025. Run and organised by the GOAT, Lin Dan, the King's cup pits 8 of the best Men's Singles players in the world against each other in a straight knockout tournament. This was the 2nd edition of this event and this year Lin Dan invited Kento Momota, who actually turned up and played. His draw was hard, he had to play the current world number 1 and world champion, Shi Yu Qi, yet Kento Momota rolled back the years and delivered a fine performance, although falling short, losing in straight games 21-19 21-15.
