So this is teaching students how to use articles a, an, the, some, etc. My first idea is dialogue substitution. • Dialogue substitution, a Quick ESL reading... You know when you give students a dialogue and they just kind of blow through it with their partner and they don't really pay attention to what they read? It's not really their fault. It's my fault because I haven't actually given them a reason to pay attention to what they're reading. Instead, remove some of the keywords. In this case, you might want to remove the articles and students have to read through it and then also put in the correct articles. It turns it kind of from just a solely reading focused activity to something that focuses on meaning and grammar as well. The second idea I have to teach articles is to use mixed up sentences. • Mixed up sentences for ESL/EFL Teachers | ... Write a bunch of sentences on the PowerPoint or on a worksheet and students have to work together with their partners to make the correct sentences. This is actually so great if you have a bunch of different nouns like singular and plural nouns and kind of different specific non-specific nouns so it actually can be a little bit tricky to make the correct sentences in those cases. The third idea is to have a picture on the screen and then elicit from students things that they see. • Easy ESL Warm Up Activity: Picture Prompt ... So they could say apple, and then you could reframe it using the correct article: apple, book and then you could reframe it: some books, that kind of thing. The fourth idea is using flash cards. • Top 5 ESL Flashcard Games and Activities f... This is a very simple one for basic beginners. You could have say like a flash card of an apple and then you could show the apple to a student and then you could say make a sentence. There is an apple. And then you could show a picture of a cat: There is a cat. The fifth idea is error correction relay race. • Error Correction TEFL Relay Race | ESL Cor... Make up a worksheet with a bunch of mistakes on it related to articles, maybe 10 of them. Then I put students into groups of two or three and they have to take turns correcting one of the mistakes. They just cross it off and then they put the correct word or whatever it is in there. Then they pass on the worksheet to their teammate and they have to correct one thing and they can keep going until they finish all of the mistakes.
