The Refugee Protection Project

Approximately 75,000 refugees live in five camps across Rwanda and Kigali with over 80% of the population women and children. The Men Role models is a group of men committed to fighting against gender-based violence. Plan supports the men and other community-based groups like them to prevent gender-based violence and child abuse, neglect, violence and exploitation in the camps. Voice of Children is a youth forum in the camp, children share different problems with the group who then advocate for them with the elders. Plan responds directly to cases of gender-based violence and child abuse, violence, exploitation and neglect through case management and psycosocial support. Plan also facilitates birth registration across all camps.
