The Principal of the school where teacher Ashling Murphy worked has said the community is “numb and in shock” since learning of her tragic death. Ashling was killed on Wednesday 12 January in Tullamore, Co. Offaly and the community are in shock at the brutal murder. The principal of the school where Ashling Murphy taught has paid tribute to an ‘adored’ young woman. Ms Murphy was randomly attacked and murdered while out jogging along the canal bank in Tullamore, Co. Offaly at around 4pm on Wednesday. Speaking to RTE Radio 1, James Hogan said Aisling was a “shining light who could put a smile on anyone’s face”. He said: “Today is a day, I suppose, that nobody can get prepared for and its an unexpected tragedy and from a school point of view the parents, the staff, pupils, to the wider community of Durrow national school here in Offaly, are just utterly devastated by the passing of our dear colleague and friend Ashling Murphy.” Mr Hogan said: “Ashling began teaching here in Durrow in March 2021 and, you know, I know her both on a professional and personal level as principal but on a personal level as well because she was a highly rated, talented, traditional Irish musician. “During her time here, we found that Aisling was just a shining light to the kids and a very professional, talented teacher. “A lady who had extraordinary sports, musical and coral talent. She was an inspiration to so many, not only in our school but across the wider community of schools and other organisations in the area that she was involved with. So we're thinking of those at this time.” ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Have you downloaded the Irish Mirror app?
