Youth from the Sisters' Stories Project share candidly about their lived experiences and how they persevere -Non-profit organization Ujamaa Collective offers the Aya Duafe Arts & Entrepreneurship Program in the Hill District neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA. The 2025 project theme was Sisters Stories: A Journey of Healing & Self-Expression, which focused on local African American girls ages 13-18 writing, reflecting, and building resilience in response to the impacts of systemic school pushout and racial targeting. School Pushout refers to the over-discipline and criminalization of Black girls in educational settings. With support from The Pittsburgh Foundation, the girls met weekly with author/facilitator team, Kim El and Alana Griffin, members of Ujamaa Collective, to explore their voices, experiences, and power. Through poetry, storytelling, interviews, and historical reflection, participants created a collective book that documents both struggle and triumph within public and private school systems. The book, the Sisters Stories Zine, is available for sale at www.ujamaacollective.org/shop
