Driving Okracoke Island, in North Carolina's Outer Banks -- scenic drive in 4K

It's not easy to get to beautiful Okracoke Island in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. But the effort is worth it! This drive follows NC route 12, covering the entire length of Okracoke Island, starting and ending at the ferry terminal at the north end of the island. We'll drive south along this tiny sliver of land into the town of Okracoke, and then turn around and head back north. The northern ferry is free, but often requires a lengthy wait. I had to wait a couple of hours in the queue to cross over onto Okracoke, but only a few minutes for the return trip to Hatteras. The ferry at the southern end of Okracoke, to Cedar Island and the mainland, is a longer ride, is not free, and requires reservations (and it books up quickly). So if you want to drive to Okracoke Island, you might be better off using the ferry to/from Hatteras in both directions. I made this trip in August 2024.
