The Case Against Lady Rowley & The Disappearance of Mary Stansbury Chronicle of the Times Episode 133 | 1924 & 1837 In today’s scandal of the past we look at two stories that made the papers in their day. The first case involves married Lady Rowley who enjoys the company of other men and also goes through money at a rate that is difficult for her husband to keep up with. A gambler who then likes to spread gifts to friends and families when she wins, lady Rowley is always in debt and her husband has had enough. Our second case from 1837 is astonishing due to the time that it took place! Mary Stansbury, beautiful wife of a popular London baker, has vanished from a shopping trip with her maid in tow. The maid returns without her mistress but then lies as to where she could be. Suspicion falls hard on the maid as concern arises as to where she could be. This story has a surprise ending! We finish this episode with a quirky story from 1878 regarding a wedding ceremony interrupted by the ghost bride of the groom’s previous relationship. Spooky!
