Mt. Sakurajima is one of the most active volcanoes in Japan. It erupts between 200 and 1000 times every year. The volcano is situated directly across Kagoshima Bay from central Kagoshima, a city with a population of approximately 580,000. It was once an island before the lava from the 1914 eruption breached the strait that divided Sakurajima from the Okusu Peninsula. That point is the intersection at 16:18 in the video.
