In this video we do a fruit comparison of several well know varieties of Mandarin (Tangelo, Tangerine) available here in California. These were all grown here, and most were grown here in San Diego, zone 10b. The DaisySL and Tango were grown at the citrus orchards at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. In the future we will bring in other mandarin varieties including Pixie, Owari Satsuma, Miho Satsuma, Dancy, Lee x Nova Supernova (or Superna), Ortanique LS, Yosemite Gold, and Okitsu Wase. If you only have room for a single mandarin tree, plant a gold nugget! I think it is overall the best tasting fruit and has the all around best attributes for a mandarin. January is too early to eat Gold Nuggets here in San Diego, they will taste much better in March and last on the tree into the summer. Shout out to Greg Alder who does these types of taste tests and has provided tons of valuable videos and posts about gardening. He is at https://gregalder.com/yardposts/ and has a superior video to this comparing Shiranui, Pixie and Gold Nugget.
