Erik Satie created some of the most sublime and soothing piano music in the classical repertoire. Yet he was known for his eccentric and at times prickly personality. He never married, fell out with most of his friends, lived half his life in a squalid room with no water or electricity and wrote stinging critiques of his rivals and absurd articles in praise of non-existent symphonies and unplayable instruments…. as well as some truly great music. In this biographical documentary, Prof Graeme Yorston, explores the wonderfully unconventional life of one of the world’s favourite composers, from his perspective as a psychiatrist. To find out if his quirkiness arose simply from getting lost in his own creative world or if there was something more to his enigmatic personality. Finding Out More If you want to find out more about the fascinating Erik Satie, I enjoyed the brief biography by Mary Davis, but the most authoritative English language book on him is by Robert Orledge. I have listed these on my Amazon Store Page. https://www.amazon.com/shop/professor... Academic References Arbide, Lola San Martín. "Erik Satie: Music, Art and Literature." (2015): 331-333. Fung, C.
