Behold a glimpse of 'Roshan Golafrooz' performance. He is a storyteller from northern Khorasan, hailing from the city of Shirvan. His father (Hamraa Golafrooz) was one of the most prominent masters of the region, and he has preserved his tradition while adding many musical pieces of his own. These storytellers are known as 'Bakhshis.' They sing, play the 'dotar', compose poetry, recite ancient tales, and create new musical compositions. 'Bakhshi' is a title given to some dutar players in Turkmenistan, the Turkmen Sahra, and Khorasan. Bakhshis are dotar players, vocalists, storytellers, poets, and instrument makers (of the dotar). The main centers of Bakhshis are Eshqabad, Turkmen Sahra, Razavi Khorasan Province, Balkan, Akhal, Mashhad, Bojnourd, Quchan, Ashkhaneh, and Shirvan. Bakhshis are the bearers of oral culture from their regions and hold a special respect and status. They are known for their improvisation skills and have the ability to perform music and sing for extended periods. Traditionally, Bakhshis used to entertain at wedding ceremonies and celebrations rather than mourning gatherings. #Bakhshi #TraditionalMusic #Storytelling #Dutar #dotar #TurkmenCulture #Shirvan #Khorasan #Folklore #IranianMusic
