Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the naval arm of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, was reportedly killed in a strike on the Iranian port city on March 26, according to reports cited by The Jerusalem Post. The reported strike targeted senior IRGC naval leadership in Bandar Abbas, a key base overseeing Iranian operations in the Strait of Hormuz — the narrow waterway through which roughly one-fifth of global oil supplies pass. Israel Katz claimed the operation eliminated Tangsiri and other commanders, though there has been no official confirmation from Tehran. Tangsiri had led the IRGC Navy since 2018 after being appointed by Ali Khamenei.
