It pairs seamlessly with the seven-speed automatic gearbox, too, meaning there's a constant stream of horizon-punching power on tap whenever you might need it. #2 The technology - The E-Class is without doubt one of the planet's smarter cars, and it paints a pretty clear picture of the day when the actual driving duties will no longer be the responsibility of the human occupant. It drives itself, parks itself, changes lanes and can see more of what's happening outside the windows than you can. The in-cabin tech is impressive, too, especially the twin-screen setup that takes over the dash. #3 The design - Put simply, we love it. the days of the Mercedes design team pumping out flat and boring cars is long behind it, but the E400 4Matic strikes a near perfect blend of posh and potency.
