The Kek Lok Si Temple, located in Air Itam, George Town, Penang, Malaysia, is the largest Buddhist temple in the country and one of Southeast Asia’s most significant religious sites. Built between 1890 and 1930, the temple serves as a major pilgrimage center for Buddhists across the region, blending Mahayana Buddhism, Theravada influences, and traditional Chinese rituals in its architecture and practices. Key Features: 1) Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas: This iconic seven-tiered structure stands 30 meters tall and uniquely combines Chinese, Thai, and Burmese architectural styles. It houses thousands of Buddha statues and offers stunning views from its summit. 2) Goddess of Mercy Statue: A towering 36.57-meter bronze statue of Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy, is a prominent feature. A pavilion supported by intricately carved dragon pillars protects the statue. 3) Temple Complex: Spanning 12 hectares, the complex includes prayer halls, pavilions, landscaped gardens, fish ponds, and a turtle liberation pond.
