Wade in the water/Kuomboka, projected video dream scene from a hybrid oratorio

An original short film by mukwae wabei siyolwe set in the ever present past to celebrate the centennial of her ancestor King Lewanika of Barotseland. Through animating archival images from the 1880's of King Lewanika and the Barotse people of southern Africa by French missionary and diarist Francois Coillard, and interspersing them with new images using HD projected video, transposed ancestral music into a post-modern soundscape, this collaboration by Daniel Bernard Roumain and Mukwae Wabei Siyolwe, the audience will witness a multi-generational encounter in the ever present past between black subjects, a King and his great great grand daughter who will pass between the real and virtual between 1916 and 2016 to reveal where indigenous pre and post identities and values collide.
