#CareDay26 will be celebrated on Friday, February 20th 2026. Each year, EPIC Care Community and Youth Council members develop the Care Day theme. For 2026, they have chosen a powerful message: The Future Starts With Us. Care-experienced young people are shaping Ireland’s future. They are leaders, creators, innovators and changemakers, bringing ideas, energy and vision to their communities and beyond. Their voices and talents are vital to building a more inclusive Ireland - and Care Day 2026 is a moment to recognise and celebrate that contribution. In this video, EPIC’s Youth Council share: “Things I Wish I Knew Before Turning 18.” Turning 18 can be exciting - but for young people in care, it can also mean navigating adulthood without the safety net many of their peers rely on. From understanding aftercare and housing, to managing finances, education and independence, Youth Council members speak about what they learned, what they wish they had known, and what needs to change. Every year, young people leave care full of ambition and potential, yet barriers in policy and practice may hold them back. Care Day 2026 is also a call to action - for government, communities and society as a whole - to better support young people as they transition to adulthood and to ensure their potential is met with real opportunity.
