The Department of English and Foreign Languages (EFL), SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur, organized an Expert Talk on “Reimagining Research: Methodological Frontiers in ELT and English Literature” on Wednesday, 07 May 2025, at 10 AM in UB 1116. The session was delivered by Dr. Suresh Kumar Agrawal, Professor, Center of Comparative Literature & Translation Studies, Central University of Gujarat. In a bold and thought-provoking lecture, Dr. Agrawal critically examined how colonial narratives shaped and often distorted Indian identity through literature and education. He emphasized that the British colonial system rewrote the meanings of Indian texts, constructed the idea of a rigid caste system, and embedded these misinterpretations into academic curricula—many of which persist today. His talk urged faculty members and scholars to decolonize their perspectives, question inherited frameworks, and explore indigenous voices and methodologies in research. This session challenged the audience to reimagine English studies not as a borrowed legacy—but as a space for intellectual reclamation and cultural truth.
