Like other warrior monks, they are a cut above samurai in terms of melee capabilities but suffer from poor armor, making them vulnerable to arrow fire. Naginata Warrior Monks compare most similarly to naginata samurai, but with better melee statistics and the War Cry ability at the cost of having much worse armor. The monks' War Cry can prove useful at critical points in the battle, causing enemy wavering units to rout. Naginata Warrior Monks are also a decent counter to cavalry, with their small anti-cavalry bonus augmented by their excellent morale, attack, and defense. They aren't as fast as yari samurai, nor are they as cheap as yari ashigaru, but they have the advantage of flexibility. Like other warrior monks, Naginata Warrior Monks are only available to non-Christian factions. Should a faction controlling Naginata Warrior Monks convert to Christianity, they automatically disband. However, metsuke of Christian factions can still obtain monks for their clan if they bribe an enemy army containing such warriors. When trained by the Date Clan, Naginata Warrior Monks have +2 charge bonus. Uesugi Warrior Monks are cheaper to recruit and maintain (at 800/175 instead of 900/200), have +2 melee attack, +3 charging bonus, and +1 melee defense. Ikko Ikki Naginata Warrior Monks have +2 melee attack, +3 charging bonus, and +1 melee defense. Unlike their Uesugi counterparts, Ikko Ikki Naginata Warrior Monks are not cheaper to train or maintain.
