http://tedxpowellriver.com/ Erik Blaney, coordinator of Tla'amin First Nation's Guardian Watchmen program. The Guardian Watchmen program was started in 2006 as a strategy to monitor natural resources in their traditional territory. It then expanded to include archaeological site protection in 2012 which began to monitor registered sites, then expanded to non-registered sites. Erik accompanies youth on canoe trips to the ancient Tla'amin village sites where they spend the days listening to the echoes of the past. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
