Last winter on the UK canals we got completely stuck when storms brought trees down all around our narrowboat. This time, with another winter storm on the way, we are not taking any chances. In this episode we are cruising our narrowboat Serenissima along the Shropshire Union Canal near Wheaton Aston, racing through long stretches of woodland before high winds and heavy rain hit. We stock up on logs, coal, kindling and red diesel, get winter ready at Turner’s Garage, and then find a safe mooring so we do not get trapped again by fallen trees on the canal. Once the storm arrives, it is a proper winter narrowboat kind of day: hunkering down with the fire lit, the boat rocking in the wind, plants trying to escape off the roof, and very little sleep as we bash against the bank. The morning after, the canal is calm, glassy and beautiful, and CRT emails start coming in about just how many trees actually came down behind us. We head out in our wellies to walk back through the woods and see the storm damage for ourselves. We are Rick and Adam, digital nomads living on a narrowboat and slow travelling across Europe when we are not on the cut. If you enjoy narrowboat life, boat life, tiny home living and slow travel, we would love you to join us. And yes, we finally reveal the name of the chimney bird that has been watching over us all winter. 🎵 All music in this video is original and written and produced by Adam. If you like hanging out with us on the UK canals, please give the video a thumbs up, hit subscribe and say hello in the comments. We read and reply to every one. 💬 0:00 Intro 0:59 Storm forecast and last winter’s chaos 1:48 Running low on logs and coal 2:59 Fuel stop at Turner’s Garage 8:42 Through the woods toward the storm 12:16 Passing our favourite mooring (but we can’t risk it) 14:47 Next morning - preparing the boat for the storm 18:20 Hunkering down as the storm hits 20:50 Morning after the storm 22:37 CRT emails and woodland walk to check the damage 25:36 We survived the storm and finally name the chimney bird #narrowboat #narrowboatlife #boatlife #canalboat #ukcanals #winterstorm #stormonaboat #liveaboard #continuouscruiser #tinyhomeliving #digitalnomads #slowtravel #thefloatingnomads
