Mulberry, Arkansas - Recently released dashcam footage depicts Arkansas State Police troopers engaged in pursuit of a driver who evaded a traffic stop in a rented Chevy Silverado. The pursuit commenced shortly after 7:20 p.m. in the Van Buren vicinity when the driver of a black pickup truck fled the initial stop, initiating a high-speed pursuit. Trooper Matthew Price joined the pursuit as the truck maneuvered recklessly through traffic, disregarding intersections and maintaining high speeds along the roadway. The situation escalated as Trooper Price attempted a PIT maneuver to halt the vehicle and impede its progress. Despite efforts to block the vehicle, it managed to regain control and accelerate further. At one juncture, the pursuit reached speeds of 122 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour zone. Around 7:35 p.m. on Mulberry Hwy 64 W, an ASP cruiser executed a PIT maneuver, successfully immobilizing the suspect vehicle. Subsequently, multiple cruisers surrounded the vehicle as troopers emerged with firearms drawn. A pregnant woman was discovered in the back seat of the truck alongside a male occupant in the front passenger seat. Following their emergence from the vehicle, the driver and other occupants were apprehended. According to the dash-camera footage, the male passenger identified himself as 32-year-old Shaffer Smith, while the driver claimed to be 30-year-old Robert Regal. However, Trooper Price noted in the footage that the driver provided a false name on two occasions. Additionally, the driver was observed making a phone call from the squad car, presumably informing his girlfriend of the unfolding events. According to the ASP, the pregnant woman stated that she was from Dallas, had no knowledge of the male occupants, and had only recently met them through her boyfriend. She also admitted to possessing marijuana. Further details are currently unavailable.
