ORDER OUR LATEST ALBUM: http://bit.ly/12B7YlZ http://www.theaustralianvoices.com / theaustralianvoices / theaustvoices Commission an Australian composer: http://bit.ly/XyNtCK This piece is without melody in the conventional sense. With a nod to Luigi Nono, Clark weaves the eight part chorus into a detailed single vocal line, shaded by close harmonies and sudden ensemble flourishes. Each syllable of the text is drawn out and passed around in a intriguing, crumbling fashion, evocative of the text itself: 'trembling like the crumbling lace on the folds of the sea'. Thus the text of Fernando Pessoa remains intelligible but in a new isolated light, just as the ever-changing voicing reveals many singular colours and densities that quickly disappear. There are two moments of silence: one at the midpoint, and one at the golden mean. Presented by The Australian Voices directed by Gordon Hamilton with many thanks to Arts Queensland, Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University and our audio engineer, Gareth David from Tall Poppy Productions (http://www.tallpoppyproductions.com). Peter Clark was The Australian Voices' composer-in-residence in 2011. Read more about him @ http://themenardensemble.wordpress.co...
