Jobs without Barriers: Inclusion in Ghana’s Textile Sector

#Inclusion #Textiles #ghana Ghana’s textile and garment industry creates thousands of jobs, yet many capable people are still excluded from employment. A project by Invest for Jobs shows how inclusive approaches can remove barriers for deaf persons and open pathways into decent work. Through a partnership with Ghana’s largest garment producer, DTRT, we support the training and employment of up to 200 deaf people as seamstresses, tailors, and machine operators in factories in Accra and Tema. At the same time, supervisors and staff are trained in sign language, and communication is made accessible – demonstrating that inclusion strengthens both people and businesses. The Special Initiative "Decent Work for a Just Transition" – the official title – offers comprehensive advice, contacts and financial support through its implementing organisations to overcome investment barriers. The development objective is to work together with companies to create good jobs and to improve working conditions and social protection in its African partner countries: Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Morocco, Rwanda, Senegal and Tunisia. The Special Initiative is making a targeted contribution to shaping the socio-ecological transformation of the private sector in line with a just transition, and to creating more and better jobs for women.
